Rhino to Inventor

@wester-na wrote:

Hi all. I am looking into importing a Rhino file into Inventor. It works okay, but I would like the Rhino solids to become Inventor parts, and carry over their Name and Layer (in fact Color, but color is bylayer). The objects in Rhino are of Type Closed solid polysurfaces.
I am using Rhino 6.0, and Inventor 2020. In principle importing the file works okay, but I wonder how to get separate parts (ipt files) and get the assembly to consist of all parts. Any help is much appreciated.

Section Tools Layout fused with 2dView

I’m using an stLayout to create section fills in a Va Plan View.

The problem is that once I move the VaPlanView to align with the stLayout the 2 views become somehow fused together and behave as though grouped, though ungroup has no effect.

Cursor/pointer alignment off center

When in ‘top’ or ‘perspective’ view my selection cursor is not in the center of my crosshairs, I have to compensate by always clicking slightly to the left of the object I want to select. This get especially problematic when I am trying to click an object or surface that is close to or meets with other surfaces/objects.

The photo below shows my top view and what is happening, at times it is worse than other. Sometimes it is slightly off but sometimes it is off by an unmanageable amount .

I have been having this problem for more than 6 months, I have contacted Mcneel/Rhino support and they were not able to resolve this, anyone have any suggestions?

Partially Solid Hatch also Flowing Directional?

@encephalon wrote:

Is it anyhow possible to create a hatch that follows a direction like along aline as seen below, that it also has solid hatches every second step? I could not find any and I wonder how these are generated usually. Autocad may have this option, but i don’t have it handy currently and I would rather like to create that in Rhino.

Currently I am using ArrayCrv with several lines then hatch each 2nd block manually, which is crazy for bigger parts… any ideas?

Feature Suggestion

Hi,

I am wondering if it is possible to store in the file different Sun Settings. I would like to have the ability to store different solar conditions date/hour etc. I would assume this would work with Snapshots but I haven’t been able to make it work. A simple drop-down would do the job and the ability to import/export from different files.

Best,
M

2nd UV Channel in Rhino?

@jy.yimkay wrote:

Hi,

I recently started creating real-time content in Unreal Engine, and my current workflow involves exporting Rhino into 3DS Max, using “Steamroller” to unwrap to 2nd UV channel, then export and import into Unreal for light build. I am looking to simplify my workflow, and so I am wondering whether it is possible to create a 2nd UV channel in Rhino, similar to what Steamroller does in 3DS Max? Any advice / comment on speeding up Rhino to Unreal workflow appreciated. Thanks!

Change focus from Eto to rhino viewport

@timcastelijn wrote:

Hi there,

I am trying tot create a selection input in an ETo dialog. If I run the following snippet, I can only select objects if I close the ETO dialog. Instead i want to temporarliy hide the dialog and change focus to the rhino viewport

def handleCompareNestingClick(self, sender, e):

    ### HIDE Dialog at this point, change focus to rhino viewport

    objs = rs.GetObjects('select nesting objects')

    ### SHOW DIALOG again here, change focus back to dialog

Is there a way to set focus to the rhino viewport and back to the ETO form when selection is completed?

thanks,

cheers,
Tim Castelijn

Viewport texture resolution / proxy / asset tracking

$

@atair wrote:

a few questions regarding textures and viewports:

  • if I apply an 8k image as texture, Rhino loads it full into vram (if it can), while useful for most cases, it is a problem once you have 30 of these on screen. Rhino.Options.Display.AdvancedTexturePreviewMaxResolution has no effect with Advanced Texture Preview Option On or Off in view settings. Bug?

  • Rhino 6 saves textures by default with the file. While convenient for the unaware, it is a problem for any serious pipeline - especially as there seems to be no option to turn this off by default. Only per file (which it remembers luckily).

  • tracking of assets: is there any way to see a list of textures referenced in the file and their status - path, relative, absolute, network etc. And some functionality to relink them. I think the API is open enough that this can be done even with some grasshopper c#, but before i start down this path i wanted the see / ask if there is any option i am not aware of.

thanks!

Section Tools Fill Colour Control

@djhg wrote:

I haven’t been able to figure out what sets this. By display and By object seems clear enough (though By Display seems to give me either the selection colour (yellow, which I don’t want) or black (which I do want), and I can’t determine what’s controlling that, as all other settings seem equal between them. I seem to be able to control it through the layer colour in some cases, but not others, despite the settings being apparently the same.

@Mason wrote:

The text (annotations) when aligned vertically with a surface will not rotate to a readible angle, but rather mirror themselves.

Can only be read correctly from straight on, or from “below” the line of text.

This is a rhino5 regression, the behavior in rhino5 would rotate the text 180 degrees so that the text was still readable and not mirrored.
