Straighten or shrink UV

Is there any tool or plugin that converts two surfaces like the ones in figure?

convert uv.3dm (981.7 KB)

I also attach the rhino file as example

Basically I need to shrink the UVs to the edges or enlarge the UVs up to a surfaces with as straight as possible isocurves (planar U isocurves parallel to C plane and or planar V isocurves perpendicular to C plane) isocurves isocurves without losing the overal shape of the surface within a certain tolerance.

Or if there is no tool that does that automatically are you at least aware of a reliable method that I can apply to achieve thus result with an almost perfect match between the two surfaces?

Offset surface

I have made a mold to make a vacuformed thermoplastic clamshell box liner. The mold is a closed polysurface. The surface I pulled off of the mold does not have any naked edges except around the outside. But when I do an offsetsrf of .75mm in the -Z direction I get naked edges on the fillets at each end. Is there a way to get this surface without manually rebuilding each naked edge?

I do not need to have a closed polysurface to make the mold, but to learn what I need to do in case the next time I do need that part to be a closed polysurface.slide holder clam box mold 001.3dm (9.4 MB)

Exporting from Rhino to EDF files (ETemplate) for kitchen program import

This might be a long shot, but as well as Rhino I run a kitchen cabinet specific program Cabmaster that allows the import of ETemplate files. The theory is you can measure up a kitchen space using Leica digital measuring gear and create an ETemplate file which is .edf

I thought it was a variant of .dxf so just tried renaming, but no success.

I’d prefer to build complex wall configurations in Rhino and import them as walls.

Anyone had any success with this?

Lens Length always becomes 50mm when I set the projection of the perspective view as parallel

@onionmarktwo wrote:

# 1) Summary

Lens Length always becomes 50mm when I set the projection of the perspective view as parallel.

# 2) Steps to Reproduce the problem

  1. Activate perspective view.
  2. Set the Lens Length to 100mm in the Object Property window.
  3. RMB drag- > hold CTRL + SHIFT in the perspective view. (The projection of the perspective view becomes parallel.)
  4. Notice that the Lens Length change from 100 mm to 50 mm.
  5. If you change the projection of the perspective view back to perspective, it is still 50 mm.

# 3) Expected

Lens Length stays 100mm.

# 4) Actual Result

Lens Length becomes 50mm.

# 5) Proof

https://imgur.com/gWE1f9G

# 6) My Environment

  • Operating system: win10
  • Rhino version: Version 6 SR22 (6.22.20028.13281, 2020/01/28)

# 7) The reason why I think this is important

When we use OneView, switching between perspective projectiong and parallel projection is important.
Please see https://discourse.mcneel.com/t/what-rhino-commands-do-you-use-on-a-regular-basis-and-think-others-dont-know-about/75942/93
And I want to keep Lens Length 100mm for better working.

It is most grateful if you know and share workaround.
I would appreciate it if mcneel would consider fixing it in future update.

Best,

Can someone tell me how to dimension a sketch. I’m drawing from other drawing programs a line or a right and then dimensioning. Or I roughly draw a body and then dimension it. Is that also possible in Rhino or do I have to dimension the lines correctly when creating them?

Mesh import / See the body clean without border lines or mesh-grid

Hi there

I’m new to Rhino. I tried to import an STL-mesh. It also works great. Now I always have this view that I see the mesh it selve. I’m used other CAD programs where I can switch on with shaded border lines and shaded without border lines. I also don’t want to see the edges of the body or in this case the mesh-grid. How do you do that in Rhino?

Hi,

I’m working on a train interior and try to apply a shutlining to the leather seats. I use an embedded block for the repeating seats. I apply the shutlining during _blockedit, but if I close the block edit mode than the shutlining effect is gone again. I hope it can be fixed.

I am trying to build a curved stairs and started with this ‘rebuild’ curve with points I am trying to figure out how to place these steps or blocks on the curve at the right place. Is there a kind of ‘array’ command that can do this? I’m also not sure how many steps I would need the dimension of 1 step is 0.5ft x 8 ft x 1 ft. stair_curve_0702_rhinoforum.3dm (48.5 KB)

@habudg wrote:

I’m nearing the end of my trial period for Rhino 3D v6 for Windows. I plan on purchasing a license from an authorized reseller (eg, Gomeasure3D or Novedge). Does anyone have any advice on this? I’m curious if this would be different than purchasing from McNeel wrt licensing, McNeel support, etc. Thanks.
