Bug in Rhino SR23

Hello everyone,

My colleagues and I have been experiencing a very unusual thing when closing the block editor window. The entire content of the block simply vanishes, and Rhino saves immediately an autosave/recover file in the usual Autosave folder right after, so it is impossible to recover any of the material lost (unless you saved manually before entering the block edit mode).

Rhino 6 to illustrator CC18 export or print. Either options causes Illustrator to crash

Illustrator crashes when trying to use an exported Rhino file.

I installed Illustrator to Windows 8 as a zipfile from the help of Adobes team.
I havn’t used it beforehand because I just reinstalled everything on my PC.
Now I’m running Rhino 6 - trial version till I get my studentlicence in order.

I want to export my 2d plan drawing. Its quite big and has a lot of layers.
I will attach it here soon.

When exporting I select the entire drawing then move it to point zero.
Then I select export selected and choose ‘snapshot of current view’.
Then I don’t change the other parameters: RGB not CMYK and ‘export viewport boundary’.
Nothing else.
Press OK. I open in Illustrator and… It crashes as soon I try to work with it…

Rhino file

In Illustrator it announces:
‘This file contains text that has been opened in a previous version of illustrator (…)’
This doesn’t make sense to me. It’s directly exported from Rhino - how can it contain text from something beforehand?

Small but Painful Naked Edge

Greetings Rhino community, you’re favourite n00b here!

I was trying to complete one of my old project that i never managed to finish and i stumbled upon this stupid edge that doesn’t match with the other one by a couple of microns.
I was planning in doing a nice 2 rail sweep between the two borders to get a nice fillet but no, this little vertex is sticking out of the border just enough to make the 2 rail sweep comand fail.

Is there a way to fix this without rebuilding the entire surface again?

Rhino 6 lagging/freezing when using undo/redo, copy and anything material related

@Tamsin wrote:

Hi,

Since upgrading to Rhino 6 I’ve been experiencing lagging and freezing when using various commands. Mainly “redo” and “undo” cause the longest lags along with “copy” and any material scaling or applying materials to the scene with Vray Next.

I’ve experienced it in different files and even small files. I’m working on a brand new PC with an excellent graphics card (Nvidia GeForce RTX 2080 B) so I can’t figure out why it would be running so slowly. The same issues are not happening when running Rhino 5.

Any help would be greatly appreciated as it’s making it impossible to roll out Rhino 6.

Hi,

There used to be a very useful reference object snap, an exact midpoint between two picked points. It is described in the documentation for Rhino 5, but I can’t find it in the newest Rhino. Is that functionality not available in Rhino 6, or am I just looking for it in a wrong place, where it used to be?

Colour of lines and annotations when exporting to .dwg

@SDV1 wrote:

Hi,

We often need to export 2D engineering type drawings, drawn in Rhino, to .dwg for sending to clients. There have been an number of bugs in Rhino 6, that I have been hoping will be sorted out in Rhino 7. I tested them now in Rhino 7 WIP 7.0.20042.9575, 2020/02/11, and some have been fixed but there are now others. I will list these issues under seperate topics to keep responses clear.

  1. When opening a 2D drawing exported from Rhino 6 SR 22, or Rhino 7 WIP, in a .dwg program like Draftsight, NanoCad, or AutoCAD, the colour of all black curves, or layers with colour black, get exported with the colour value (0,0,0). It would be great if they can be exported with the .dwg supported colour (black/white), so that when opened in AutoCAD with a black model space background, the curves are visible:

We have to manually open .dwg drawings exported from Rhino, in AutoCAD (or equivalent), and change all layers with colour black (0,0,0), to colour (black/white), before sending on to our clients.

Can Rhino export this (black/white) colour code to .dwg files?

  1. When opening a 2D drawing exported from Rhino 6 SR 22, in a .dwg program like Draftsight, NanoCad, or AutoCAD, the annotation text aligns vertically, when it was horizontal in Rhino:

This was not an issue in Rhino 5, or earlier SR’s of Rhino 6.

This seems to have been fixed when exporting from Rhino 7 WIP, but now the colour of the text is always black:

It would be great if the issues for both Rhino 6 export and Rhino 7 export can be fixed.

Draw order only works in wireframe mode! why?

Hi,

currently in Rhino 6 latest build, I can only see the correct draw order it set on objects in wireframe mode.

If I switch to any other mode the order of lines hatches etc is lost which is really annoying.

I believe this was working different at some point before.

Can you confirm and/or clarify if this is an intended behavior?

thanks,

Dimension scale when exporting to .dwg

We very often need to create a 2D drawing in model space, and not use layouts (or paper space as it is called in AutoCAD). So to create a detailed view, we make copy of the 2D curves (in model space), and scale those curves up by the factor of the detailed view we want to show. Then to dimension that detailed view, we set the length factor of that dimension style to 1 / the zoom factor of the detailed view.

When opening a 2D drawing exported from Rhino 6, or from Rhino 7 WIP, in a .dwg program like Draftsight, NanoCad, or AutoCAD, that Length factor of the dimension style is not exported to the .dwg file:

The result is the dimension are all incorrect in the exported .dwg file:

Exporting from Rhino 5, did not have this issue. The first time a part was fabricated off a drawing exported from Rhino 6, we had major problems to sort out. The only work around for us is to export drawings from Rhino 5! It would be great if this issue can be sorted out in both Rhino 6, and Rhino 7.

I know it is intended that 2D drawing detail views be done in Layouts in Rhino, and doing it that way, that Length factor export to .dwg is not an issue, but many of our clients, and our suppliers work with detailed views scaled up in model space, and we need to be able to sometimes stick to this format.

Export surface with applied thickness in properties as solid

@kraken747 wrote:

I have already modeled some buildings, where almost all object have a thickness applied from the properties tab in rhino (walls, doors, windows). When trying to export the file, of course, all the surfaces export without the “visual” thickness. Is there an option to “bake” that thickness, so I can get solids when exporting (and also in rhino)? Is this “thickness” option only a visual thing and you can never get the actual solids that are displayed as actual objects?
