Hi,

Rhino versions before 6 had another method for drawing osnap, where one could choose “white on black”

I found a setting in advanced options, but setting other colors here, also after restarting rhino stick in the settings, but the viewport is only showing the standard black on grey.

could you please verify? (and fix  )

hi, this is my first time using this forum, I am trying Rhino 6 evaluation in Windows 7 and back faces are showing up transparent. I can flip normals but the backside is always transparent. I have looked for solutions online trying different wording, not solving problem. There appears to be a cull setting shown on some sites but I can’t find anywhere in v6. I have worked with Rhino 4 for many years, never had this problem, I created simple test geometry in Rhino 6 and imported into Rhino 4, no problems in Rhino 4. I don’t see this problem listed on this forum, am I missing something simple or is this a bug?

thanks, John

Mesh on existent object

Hey everyone! I’m pretty new to rhino and grasshopper and there’s something I want to do with my model but have no idea on how to do it. I created a voronoid tower on grasshopper and baked it with this as the ending result: attached picture. Now I need to get a mesh that would simulate the shape of the tower (covering gaps and everything else) I tried to do it by draping but it doesn’t quite adapt to the shape. Is there any way to do sort of a “vacuum forming” mesh of the existing object? maybe through any grasshopper script? I hope I was able to explain myself. Thank you in advance!

Rhino Lockout

@Artstep wrote:

Hello all,

I seem to have been partially locked out of Rhino, I can move about still and rotate views. but I cannot enter any commands, I can’t open up the Rhino options or anything. The cursor seems to be locked to the one below, I can right click layers and select objects but not in any of the viewports.

It seems as if Rhino is stuck in a command, but nothing is running, The biggest worry is that I have made a lot of progress on this file and it locked up when I tried to save it - the file size in explorer is still the same as it was before and I’ve brought in a lot of geometry so it should have been a fairly dramatic increase.

Space, Esc and Enter do nothing at all.

I’ve tried running _Cancel, most commands will just give me the windows error tone as if I am locked out. I have VisualARQ and VRay running - is there anyway to unload plugins or to kill all processes sop to speak, I would really prefer not to have to force close the file, there’s too much to redo.

Alternatively is there any other way to diagnose what is going on here?

Thank you,

Sash

Rhino 6 Picture Command Not Working

@ebarone wrote:

I just got rhino 6 and the picture command isn’t working.

I’ve tried JPEG and PNG files and they both just give me white planes with no image. I saw a suggestion to use -PictureFrame and the pictures path but I either did it incorrectly or it doesn’t work.

I can use an background bitmap, but I laser etch the images so unless I can remove the grid from the image it’s useless to me.

If antone knows a fix for this I’d be eternally greatful.
Thank you.

rhino help says:

BlockquoteThey were not designed to be used for bending and unfolding sheet metal like duct work or for developing fabric patterns.

but actually rhino results are more accurate than solidworks ! TR-1BF5.3dm (349.7 KB)

Hi everybody, I’m quite a newbie with Rhino, and I have troubles modeling an easy shape.
I have two sloped walls (Actually one wall that at one point splits into two) and they create two different curves. I would like to make them be always at the same height also if they make a different path. How should I do this? I cannot find the solution!
You can udnerstand better the problem in the following image.
Thanks!

I continue to be surprised at just how broken the V6 online help is and that it is not being addressed. I have posted a few examples in threads from the past, here is another one:

Try searching simply for “Tab” (or “Tab key”, same thing)

In V6 online help I get this:

In the V5 .chm I get all of this:

Trying again with “viewport”, in the V5 .chm, I get a ton of stuff instantly - I would have to narrow it a little, of course, but it’s a starting point.

In the V6 online help I get this:

…been going for at least five minutes now, and still no results.

This is just not acceptable for a Help function.

Block conflict on import, but what?

It might be 100% logical for those who natively speak english, but for those of us who don’t it is not so clear what is the “Model” and that is the “File”.

If you’d rather call them “Existing block” and “Block from imported file” then the conflict should be avoided for most.

Oh… and is it hard is it to compare two blocks to see if they are identical? If not then I think Rhino should do that because in this example they are the one and same block and I don’t think Rhino should bother me to ask if I want to replace one block with an identical one.

Problems with surface triangulation/ meshing/ quad separation

Hi!
I’m new to Rhino.
I created a surface with two-rail simple sweep tool. This surface is very strangely triangulated (1st screenshot) but it exports properly as quads to OBJ. The bigger problem (these two may have something in common) is shown in the second screenshot. I cannot smooth these surfaces. Tried to play with sweep settings and then ApplyEdgeSoftening, nothing. I’m not in FlatShade mode.

I created some surfaces with two-rail simple sweep tool. They are very strangely triangulated (1st screenshot). I exported my model to OBJ and pasted to SketchUp where you can see it’s been triangulated in another odd way. Can I somehow have more control over triangulation? I’d like to see something that simply looks like triangulated quads.

When in Rhino, I cannot smooth these surfaces - this is the other problem but less painful. Tried to play with sweep settings and then ApplyEdgeSoftening, nothing. I’m not in FlatShade mode.
