Print model space to pdf

I am trying to print a model space to a pdf by using rs.Command.
For some reason the following command does not do anything: _-Print _Go
Is this a bug? Does this mean that Rhino 6 does not allow to use the suppress dialog box Print command?

Problem with Flowing Objects Along Surface

@CarvedMetal wrote:

I’ve flowed before but this time it’s just not working right. I made these names for a ring, tapered so there is some definition between the letters. Trying to do the CreateUVCurves and then FlowAlongSrf method. But no matter where I try to click the base surface and target point, I get goofy results.

I want the broader parts of the name polysurfaces on the outside of that circular ring surface (which defines the finger size). I keep getting extremely distorted things, or the names on the inside of the surface, or when I moved the cyan base surface to the top of the names, the narrow parts end up on the finger.

What am I doing wrong here?
Please and thank you!

Snap in rhino 6

Hello, why in new rhino snap point is guess work? If i look at cube from top plain and try to snap to corner it picks corner not closer to me but occluded one (snap to occluded objects is disabled), this is very annoying when copying items, and they start zigzagging instead of snapping to same point on same objects.

Objects which reference material images show in black when rendered

Version 6 SR14
(6.14.19064.4371, 5/03/2019)

Since installing 6.14 this week, I am occasionally seeing objects rendered in black. It is not readily reproducible, but has occurred at least twice. I think that the objects in question are defined with materials which include images from the library. It seems to occur during a session when changes are made to the model.

Given the difficulty in reproducing the problem at will, I have not included a sample file, nor images. I am hoping that in this case a description of the symptoms will be sufficient to help you.

As a work around, saving, closing and restarting reinstates the correct rendering.

The problem might be similar to this earlier report.

Regards, Garry.

Texture mapping and "look" after last update

After updating to Rhino 6.13 some textures changed for me. It might be something I did but just wanted to check if anyone else is having the same problem. Texture filter is turned off in both cases, even though it looks like that is what has changed. This only affects objects with Box mapping.

I have tried to open a .wmf file or import such as a basis to start afresh over it creating some numbers I need, however I cant see the file either as open or import. It is vector, so how can I do this ?
I have exported it as eps postscript level3 (default setting) in Affinity Designer but Thino says cant open old AI file !

Losing custom settings

@Sam3 wrote:

I have started having a very similar issue. I am using a commercial license and version 6.13.19058.371, 2/27/201. Starting very recently, my customized aliases and color schemes revert to default, seemingly randomly. I wouldn’t mind the colors so much, but in between commands sometimes the aliases are forgotten and my habitual AutoCAD-like command shortcuts instead do the default command (like ‘mi’ for mirror yields ‘MicroScribeCalibrateTip’). Since the comma/period thing was fixed last year, is there a recent update that would cause these issues?

My company uses roaming profiles. Could this be part of the issue? Re-importing my aliases every five minutes is getting rather tiresome. :frowning:

How to replace material in Rhino, similar as the 'use as replacement ' function in Vray

for instance, I have two materials in rhino. and I want the property of material 1 exactly same as material 2. i.e., replace material 1 with material 2.

Vray has the material replacement function, but cant find a similar one in Rhino.

‘Match’ command doesn’t work in some cases, for instance, when we have blocks in blocks in blocks, it’s time-consuming to click into each one to get the objects and match the material.

Dimension Text Placement when outside Dimension Line

@djhg wrote:

I have been able to move the text in these examples to where I want them (shown in red) but they won’t stay that way. Over the life of the file, they constantly return to the distances Rhino is displaying them. Stability is required here.

EditableDimensionExteriorTextPlacement

I would recommend a default of the text being justified one character’s distance from the nearest extension line. (This would satisfy most cases, in my opinion, as does centring the text on most dimensions.) The external text’s location node needs to be editable as customization for cases where there are elements which would interfere with this default condition; the extended dimension line automatically would move with that node, going only as far as required to underline the text.

The way it operates now is contrary to professional architectural drafting practice in two ways: 1) In pro practice, the text must be as close as possible to the dimension it cites without overlapping another element. 2) The persistently lengthy current external extended dimension line can create distracting meaningless intersections, which a professional keeps to a minimum on a document where the intersections of dimension and extension lines are the crucial components for easy legibility.

Unfortunately the current appearance looks sloppy and careless, and I’ve found no stable way to correct it.

I am having issues on startup. Seems Rhino hangs on Loading Plug-in: Animation Tools. I just noticed though that there is a request on the command line to “Select target to update”. If I hit escape it will clear that command and finish loading. The attached image shows it all.

Rhino into photoshop still unsolved and a weakness in Rhino

Hi,

Need to get a rhino drawing into photoshop. (still struggling)

attempt 1, select drawing and export as ai, result, sharp corners get rounded off
attempt 2, select object and export selected option as pdf, result it has take all objects and dims.

what do I have to do to get export as pdf selected objects to only be on 'selected objects ’ ?

any other suggestions on getting object into photoshop without something happening to it.

if its 20mm tall then I want it 20mm tall and at whatever resolution I make it in photoshop. a 20mm x 20mm box must be a 20mm x 20mm box and not rounded corners, ai hopeless at such.

eps would be the way but Mcneel have yet to add that , although its the universal way of taking vector between vector progs.

Best 2-in-1, pen enabled Laptop for Rhino? MS SB2 vs. Dell XPS vs. HP Spectre vs. any other?

@Santaklon wrote:

I know there are a ton of “what laptop should I buy” threads but i haven’t found any conclusive answer to my specific problem among them, so here it goes:

I need a new laptop urgently, since mine is dying on me. I work as an architect so I am on building sites often and need to be abled to walk around while looking at plans thus I really want a pen enabled 2-in-1. I want snappy 3D previews in shaded mode of complex models with lights and materials but I don’t do much actual rendering - if needed i don’t mind waiting for a while.

I’m looking into things like the Surface Book 2, the Dell XPS 15 or the HP Spectre x360 but i am totally lost on what to choose, especially on the GPU side of things! As always you can find people telling you a specific laptop is the greatest they ever used, while others will tell you it is crap for some reason.

I could currently get a used Surface Book 2, 15", i7, 16gb, GTX 1060 6gb for 2200.- bucks. I like the SB2 for its detachable display and rear Camera but am not sure if it is a good choice for Rhino at all!

Any help and input would be greatly appreciated! What would you choose, is there an option I’m missing completely and what specs do i really need?
