In the command line when I type a backslash it returns a capital W with a horizontal bar through the middle of it. How does this get corrected?

Need a new box, recommendations, please

I’m looking at this, which is at the high end of my budget:

Any first reactions? (Polite ones only, please.) And
please free to make alternate suggestions.

Not claiming to be all that much hardware savvy, I’ve been happy with Dell for the last 2+ decades and three boxes, and from Rhino v.3 up. No huge files, just some small engineering projects, and some sculpture that I’ve digitized and am interested in 3D printing in different materials and sizes.

Printing with layout having an unintended margin

I’m trying to print with a layout set by my teacher. As shown below, it does not have any margins and the squares are supposed to be in the corners.

However, when I print with the layout, a margin is clearly seen in the print preview and the final print file.

Update: Unlike the print preview, the actual file has no LEFT AND TOP margin but only has the RIGHT and BOTTOM margin

Partial extrusion of subD objects

$

Hi,
It is me again with another question regarding subD. The last topic I started was regarding a sink design in rhino using subD, where I showed a few examples of my approach, but I was wrong in all of them.

This time I have a question regarding extrusion of subD.
I will give an example again with a sink.
http://www.roca.com/catalogue/products/basins/countertop-basins-0102/beyond/countertop-fineceramic-basin-3270B8..0#!A3270B8000

I can’t get my head around the geometry around the faucet. Do I model the basin and then extrude the volume underneath the faucet, do I extrude from the base of the sink or the sides.
I have tried a few options but I never get a satisfying result.
Some colleagues are modelling similar objects in Blender, but the methodology in blender is not quite the same as in rhino subd.

Does anyone have suggestions on how the fine tune extrusions of subd (ofc if this is the way to go)?

Exporting .obj with materials + textures

Dear all,

A client recently asked me to export a file as .obj/.fbx including all materials and textures. This file is going to be used in another program to code an AR app. I can’t seem to be able to save the file whilst keeping all materials + textures.

I have checked the save textures box. I have tried both phong and lambert materials. Both ASCII and binary. I always get some materials, but never all together. What could be the problem? I’ll attach the .3dm file here.

Physical features for object in viewport

Hello. Is there any possibility to move the objects in viewport, so that they do not intersect each other. For instance, I move the object A to the surface of another one(Object B), as a result object A can’t go through object B. ( Imitation of a real physical objects)

Rhino v6 VS FormZ Pro v9

$

Hello! I am trying out Rhino3D for the 2nd time. First was probably when it was v5. Now it’s v6. I want to either buy and use Rhino3D or FormZ Pro v9. This post is my attempt at getting someone to help me compare these two 3D modeling CAD softwares (head to head). Please, since I’m not logging into forums much at all, reply to me on Twitter: @Eidsmore (guy with eidsmore.weebly.com website link) or Email: mercury1978kevin@yahoo.com after seeing my list (at 40 seconds pause & pause again after 10 more seconds or so) here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ABlcJma-hiE or go to YouTube and type in minecraft2cad and see the video that compares 12 CAD programs to each other (to get my list that compares CAD to each other)

This is a list of what I feel so far are pros and cons of FormZ Pro vs. Rhino3D (pros/cons for FormZ Pro, relative to Rhino3D)

Pro: error FREE
Con: lacks as many plug-ins or extras (with is also a pro when it comes to it costing less)
Pro: right click on any tool to get help for that specific tool (very easy to learn)
Con: not as popular
Even: both have perpetual lic. options and I like that
Even: both have non-photo realistic rendering and animation capabilities without the need for any plug in (correct me if Rhino does not have either one without a plug-in)
Pro: FormZ is better for hobbyist like myself (so far)
Pro: does not upsell as much (a con also since it lacks as many extra programs that can work with it called plug-ins)
Even: both have mesh, surface, and solid modeling methods/types

OK, so let me know your thoughts by responding by the above contact info. I forget my password to Rhino forums so I won’t be coming on here again (unless somehow I change my mind on which one is overall better for me). FormZ Pro v9 seems better. Remember, I am a hobbyist so this is might not be true for people in the industry/jobs depending upon the exact job. Agree?

Also, how do I (or can I) go into settings/shortcuts and change certain navigation things my way? I want the spacebar to be pan (hold down and move mouse), zoom in/out (incremental zoom) both plus and minus keys on my keyboard (numpad and near the backspace key), and rotate view/orbit should be set to just a right click and hold is how I remember having them set in my other CAD program (called ViaCAD Pro). And I want a black background (which I’ve done), but also green objects/lines. How? Or cannot be done in Rhino3D!?

RebuildCrvNonUniform command is almost useless

$

RebuildCrvNonUniform documentation is here: https://docs.mcneel.com/rhino/7/help/en-us/commands/rebuild.htm#RebuildCrvNonUniform
Is says: The RebuildCrvNonUniform command interactively modifies selected curves by non-uniformly re-spacing the control points.

In reality the RebuildCrvNonUniform interactively modifies end points of the curve only. All other control points are somehow influenced by single sliding point located in the middle of the curve. This single sliding point is almost useless. What we need is the ability to control density of the control points along the curve. dense spacing = more detail; sparse spacing = smooth shape

Fillet is completely broken - help!

$

Hi there, currently working on an extremely important project; just updated Rhino, and filled edge seems to have completely broken.
It simply creates the filleted edge mesh, but doesn’t remove the original objects edge - so I either just end up with a filleted mesh inside the original model, or just the filleted edge and nothing else.

At first I thought my object was just too complex somehow (even though it was relatively simple), so I created a simple cube, but the same happened here.
So maybe the file is somehow corrupted? Made a brand new file, created a simple cube…Aaaand, same result. Broken.
Chamfer works just fine, but fillet is completely unusable!

Please help! If anyone has any idea what’s happening!

After a Past, if I make an Undo, the imported material is not deleted.

Fortunately, there are a lot of tools for finding deleting the material.

Set bounding box as box mapping for many objects

Hello,

I have a bunch of geometry (wooden planks) and a texture that fits them perfectly. Is there any way to automatically set the uv box mapping to a bounding box oriented to the geometry?

There’s tons of them and takes a while to go into each plank and orient the box properly.

I had a look at python but it was beyond me for the moment.

I was just working and I must’ve pressed a button or something or a stray command, but in the perspective window I cant move my mouse in the z axis. I will select a point, and it only moves in the x and y direction. I can use elevator mode, but I want the setting back to naturally do it.

Extend And Trim Lines and Surfaces

If there are 2 curves /,, that would intersect at some point is there a command to ‘close’ them automatically instead of doing it manually with extend trim?

Similarly with Surfaces

Thank you!
