Request: Check for updates while licence in use on another machine

If it isn’t too time-consuming to do, could we have an option on the “License is in use on [a.n.o. computer]” dialogue that allows a “Check for updates”/“Update now” path so we can update a second machine while continuing to use Rhino on the first?

At the moment, the workflow is: Fire up Rhino to do something, get notified of available update, delay start of work to install update, delay further by starting Rhino on second machine, transfer licence, [maybe wait a while for Rhino to download the update], install the update to keep machines in sync, fire up Rhino on first machine, transfer licence back, start work. Nice to streamline this.

Rhino 6 Display Error

Hi everyone,
I am using Rhino Version 6 SR29 (6.29.20238.11501, 25/08/2020). After the most recent update, I noticed that my Rhino 6 displays fragmented/distorted geometries which was not the case before. I tried the same file with my Rhino 5 and worked fine. Here is the screen shot for comparison.

Similarly, if I create a brand new file in Rhino 6 and draw a box, the process for which I set box corners would show but the final geometry is not viewable. I doubled checked my display setting to ensure surfaces are checked. Here is the screen shot for reference.

Cant set print window to exact dimensions

Hello,

I have got rectangle 1000x700mm. Print size set to 1000x700, 0 margins etc. when i try to set print are via window button i cant match exactly the shape of the rectangle.

Curved ramp with flat landings

How do I approach designing a curved ramp that is in-line with my country’s regulations? Let’s say the ramp’s path is a curve and this curve may only traverse one meter in height with an angle of 5 degrees, after which there needs to be a 2 flat meter landing. This should be repeated till I reach the next floor which, makes the ramp about 5 meters high.
I was hoping to wrap my surface with the ramp & landings around the inside of the ramp’s outline, with flow along surface, but that’s not working out as expected.

Is there a way to move an objects/planes origin?

Hello Everyone,
I am rather new to rhino but have used other 3D programs in the past.
Is there any way to move the origin of an object or plane to a specific location, like one of the corners, and have it remain there until moved again? I know you can select a rotation point if you use the command but I would like the origin to remain there so I could quickly experiment using gumball.

Picture Material needs a BIGGER preview :)

Hi guys,
I inserted a few PDF’s to the document and it works great, but when I go in to the material editor to fine tune a bit I got reminded how hopelessly small the image icons are:

Can you please add a big preview window for Picture materials?
A collapsible “Image Viewer” area between “Picture” and “Notes” would be great.

When clicking an object(s) on a single layer, is there an option which allows it such that the layer becomes the active layer after the object(s) has been selected?

Generating pdf drawings Rhino 5 & 6 differences

Hello,
i am using custom display modes in Rhino to generate technical drawings to .pdf files. Below You can find two example of using the same display mode, but generated from Rhino 5 and Rhino 6. Can someone explain, why it is looking normal in rhino 5 and in rhino 6 there are those thick lines and it is not possible to use it.
With simple drawing it is not a problem to make it in Rhino5 and generate .pdf from it, but when there is a bigger model with some .stp files imported in it (more details), rhino 5 starts to struggle and drawing loading process is taking ages.

Exporting/saving to Rhino 5 #Rhino 7 BETA (7.0.20273.15003, 29-09-2020)

I often export my Geometry to Rhino 5, since this is what my business-partners/suppliers can open. When I export, it NEVER does comes up with prompt window the first time, where you can click/select Rhino 5 / Rhino 6-export. Even though the file is saved, the file/export fails to open in Rhino 5, which means it saves in Rhino 7 format. It’s ONLY after the second time when you perform the export, that the prompt window appears, and the export is correcrtly made. This is an old bug that exits in Rhino 6 also.

DWG Export Creates Half-Cylinders

When exporting a solid cylinder from Rhino to DWG (Solid 2007) it arrives there as two circular caps and TWO HALF-CYLINDERS. The same occurs when exporting solids with circular holes.

Why is that? It makes it utterly difficult to export fabrication models and have a CAM-software identify drilling features. (Not that feature recognition would be a good way of creating cam-data, but it’s the state of the art, unfortunately…)

In the image below,

  • the red cylinder was created as an extrusion in Rhino6
  • the green cylinder was created as a brep in Rhino6
  • the black cylinder was created as cylinder in ACAD2020

Both Rhino-cylinders were exported to DWG Solid 2007. The black cylinder was added in ACAD2020 (where the two others where already solids with two half-surfaces…). Then the DWG was re-imported into Rhino 6.

V6 - View Options

I am creating an object while using a previously created object for reference purposes.

Is there a way to have one object view wire frame and another the other object view shaded at the same time and one the same screen?

Locked layers did not help.

In my situation, I am being bombarded with thousands of wires while trying to manipulate the single curve I am working with. A different way to view the project would seem to be helpful too.

Any other work around would be appreciated.

Bongo Help Needed: How to control a bodies translation via IK and 2 DOF

I’m pretty new to bongo and I’m trying to use it for the first time. I need help defining the animated objects.
I’m aiming on achieving a simple mechanism where a platform is lifted by two separate points. At each point there a is lever which rotates 90 degrees. (Each lever has a different length resulting in a angled lift at the end of the motion)
I’ve attached the model so you guys can assist me.

Dimension Colour change in Annotation Styles

Hi all,
Is it possible to change the colour of dimensions in general by default settings?
I can not find these option in Annotation Styles?

E.g. Every time I launch rhino 6, I would like to draw dimension in blue.
Even though, I work in a layer other than blue.

Proxy import issue

Hello

I wish to plant trees in my scene (a small forest)

So I import a tree downloaded from the internet, texture it and export it as a proxy. To see if it works I delete it and reimport it. At this level, questions come to me:

  • The texture has disappeared

  • the proxy having become a single object, how to re-differentiate the foliage and bark texture?
